Find and discover Games

Top  Previous  Next

Metropolis Launcher provides lots of possibilities to manage, find and discover games. It is encouraged to add full sets of games to Metropolis Launcher and not just a few titles you like. This way you will be able to discover other games as well.

A crucial part of taking advantage of filtering and sorting is to link games to their respective MobyGames data. The linking takes place in the Rom Manager. In most cases this is already done when you add games. In some cases however, you have to set the link by yourself (e.g. PC - Windows games). See the Add Games section of this documentation on how to link games to MobyGames data.

Manage Favorites and rate games

You can add and remove the favorite flag of a game simply by clicking on the checkbox in the Fav column of the game's row. You will then be able to filter or sort by this flag.

You can also rate your games by Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, Story and Personal slant. In order to do this, open the Rating tab page on the lower right section and click the stars. You may also adjust the rating weights. This way for example you can give some rating categories more weight than others. After setting your rating for a game, the total rating is visible in the Rating column of the game's row, which can be filtered and sorted. Any rating category with 0 stars is not counted towards the total rating.

Discover games

You play a nice game and would like to discover other games based on its meta data? There are some possibilities in place for that!

Discover games by Similarity Calculation

The Similarity Calculation is an experimental feature of Metropolis Launcher and it's worth for an own topic.

Discover games by similar meta data

You can very easily discover games by similarities in their meta data. In the following example we will discover new games by allowing all platforms, filtering by developer and sorting by year:

0. Requirements: You have some full sets of different consoles

1. Choose the game you like

In our example it is Gunstar Heroes for the SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive

2. Select Platform: All Platforms

We don't want to just find games for SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive, but similar games on all platforms.

3. Filter by Developer

In the game data of Gunstar Hearoes we find the developer "Treasure Co., Ltd.". We can now filter by this developer in the following ways:

   - choose the developer from the list in the Developer column header's smart tag

Play_Find_and_Discover_Filter_Smarttag

 - Enter "Treasure" in the quick search field of the Developer column

Play_Find_and_Discover_Filter_Quick_Search

4. Sort by Year

You can click on a column header in order to sort by the column. In this case click the Year column header.

Now we are able to see other fine releases sorted by year created by Treasure Co., Ltd. such as

Alien Soldier (SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive)
Mischief Makers (Nintendo - Nintedo 64)
Advance Guardian Heroes (Nintendo - Gameboy Advance)
Gunstar Super Heroes (Nintendo - Gameboy Advance)

even if we only knew Gunstar Heroes before.

Discover games by game groups

The following approach is similar to and combinable with the one mentioned above. In the following example we take once again Gunstar Heroes (SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive) and discover Gunstar Super Heroes (Nintendo - Gameboy Advance).

0. Requirements: You have some full sets for different platforms

1. Choose the game you like

In our example it is Gunstar Heroes for the SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive

2. Select Platform: All Platforms

We don't want to just find games for SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive, but similar games on all platforms.

3. Open tab page Groups in the lower right section

We can see, that Gunstar Heroes is part of the group Gunstar Heroes series.

3. Filter by the group

Open the context menu (right click) of the group entry and choose the menu item Filter by this group.

Now we are able to see other fine releases such as

Gunstar Heroes (SEGA - Game Gear)
Gunstar Super Heroes (Nintendo - Gameboy Advance)

even if we only knew Gunstar Heroes (SEGA - Genesis / Mega Drive) before.
